Title?

"pinafores and bedjackets: a collection of non co-ordinates"

or

"susi kettu" (wolf fox in finnish)

I think the second one is cutest. if you say it outloud it sounds nice.

I had my toile fitting crit today, the amount I am rubbish at patterncutting has almost made me want to cry. The amount of work I need to do in the next 5 weeks is almost stupid. I wish I had managed my time better. I am feeling more motivated now though. But going out has to stop.

I did get a first year helper today though. Her name is Heather, I have seen her out in bluenote a number of times. I think we shall get on well...

I tried to post my image for the Graduate Fashion Week stand but I couldn't get it to work. I also couldn't get it to save as a jpeg. Today has not been my day quite obviously. I would like someones opinion, I'm not sure if its the best piece of work to portray myself as a fashion graduate. I am also not sure if I actually care.

Instead I will post the lyrics to this song:

SCATTERED PEARLS

the clasp broke at the disco Mom I'm sorry& the older men who hit on Becky
nearly broke their necks on scattered pearls
& we searched the best we couldfor two entire songs we knelt & felt along
the place where we had stood
but we only found 7 of Grandmother's pearls

& as we rode the bus home I thought surely
I'd wake up tomorrow just to findthat I had dreamed up everything
there'd still be pearls on a string
I wouldn't smell like smoke & I'd still
have the cash that I had spent on drinks
oh I feel as scattered as Grandmother's pearls

Mom don't cry they're only pearls

indeed...

wolf

new year

So this is when the hard work really starts.

I got all my feedback from last terms assignments and I must say I am actually please with myself. All my hard work seems to have paid off so if I can just stay motivated it might all go ok.

The feedback I got from my initial proposal was useful.

I am now sticking to the theme of foxes, wolves and fairytales and incoporating print and embroidery on vintage fabrics, maybe using words and text in there somewhere.

I'm going to keep the shapes simple, and I've been thinking today in particular about basing them around aprons, pinnies, tabbards as my basic shape, as they're functional, practical and simple.

Plus I quite like them...

but my brain is tired now. So i shall pick this up at another time.

I found this image today on ebay and I just really liked it..the quality of the line and the colours etc. Ive also been constantly checking in at the library about the latest issue of Textile View but its still not here and its causing me just a little anxiety...less so however than my context which is worryingly just getting nowhere. I just dont know how to begin even though I've done my preliminary outline etc, its just the wording and I actually usually enjoy writing essays (yes, I know, I know) so its not that. I dont know. But I shall try again to handwrite so more when I get home and try and type some more up on Saturday. Just this deadline is looming ever so closely.

On another note I have been designing for my FMP and re-reading through my initial proposal and there are some things I've decided to change (already) but then there are a few things I've actually managed to narrow down. I've always been interested in recycling and simple shapes with interesting surfaces so before my tutorial I'm going to look into the 'CC41' utility label more.

Ive also been reading "It's Vintage, Darling!" which I got for Christmas and its given me ideas about how I'd like some of my garments to be finished and how things should be to be professional. In the past I havent really given much thought to final presentation and workmanship but I have come to realize if this is sub-standard then it doesnt matter how attractive the clothes are they will never be as good as they could be, so yes, good finishes etc is now what im going for....and linings, lots and lots of neat, lovely linings
